Ethiorica: A Journal of Literature and the Arts
Ethiorica: A Journal of Literature and the Arts (EJLA) is a bi-annual publication that features the best in poetry, fiction, nonfiction, translation, art, photography, interviews, and reviews of established and emerging writers and artists.

Ethiorica’s mission is to produce a journal of art and literature that poignantly reflects the diversity of experience and overwhelming talent present in the larger Ethiopian and pan-Ethiopian communities, and to share the rich experience of this underserved community. We believe there are many stories left untold; our goal is that this journal will serve as a vehicle to accomplish our mission by representing our collective voice in the literary and art world.

Accessible yet challenging, Ethiorica aims to be intriguing, offbeat, and compulsively readable to appeal to the senses, intellect, and emotions of our discerning readers. EJLA will be diverse, compelling, intelligent and eclectic.

Ethiorica’s first issue will be available in Spring of 2012. We will be soliciting manuscripts and works from distinguished writers and artists; we also select the most exciting finds from our submissions. Our commitment is to our readers—to produce a collection that inspires, informs, surprises, challenges, and excites.

Ethiorica’s purposes are:
to celebrate the present, share the past and create the future through good writings and the arts;
to inspire and help develop a generation of story tellers from and about Ethiopia;
to encourage young and upcoming writer and artists to further creativity;

Ethiorica will be published every Spring in English and Fall in Amharic by Tsehai Publishers in Los Angeles and Addis Ababa. Literary writers and visual artists are highly encouraged to participate. Manuscripts received via our SUBMISSION PORTAL by December 15, 2011 shall be considered for publication on our first issue. We also accept and publish works for subsequent issues on a rolling basis.
